Workers’ compensation is insurance that provides cash benefits and/or medical care for workers who are injured or become ill as a direct result of their job. Employers pay for this insurance and shall not require the employee to contribute to the cost of compensation. Weekly cash benefits and medical care are paid by the employer’s insurance carrier, as directed by the Workers’ Compensation Board. A claim is paid if the employer or insurance carrier agrees that the injury or illness is work-related.

Coverage Options

The contractors protective and professional indemnity (CPPI) policy has become a necessity for the design-build contractor. The policy provides these basic coverages:

  • Cover medical care and medical treatment
  • Replace most of their lost wages if they take time off from work to recover
  • Provide disability benefits
  • Give death benefits, like helping pay for a funeral if they lose their life in a work accident or from a job-related illness
  • Workers’ compensation can help pay for your legal costs if your business faces lawsuits from injured workers or their families
